Haslam secures win and double podium finish at Assen

JG Speedfit Kawasaki's Leon Haslam won the opening race and finished third in race two of the 11th round of the 2017 MCE British Superbike Championship at Assen in Holland to retain the series lead.

“I had a plan for race one but Assen is one of those circuits where nothing normally goes to plan! I was happy sitting in third place then, with six laps to go, I decide to try and put some smooth laps together and hit my points and thankfully it worked out.

“In race two I was pushing hard and I was struggling a little for the first half of the race. I managed to find a good rhythm towards the end but we had a bit of an issue on the back straight when the engine cut out on me.

“A big thanks to everyone at JG Speedfit Kawasaki, I felt happy with the bike and the boys have done really well this weekend. We’ve had a hard part of the season and when qualifying doesn’t go well or you’re generally having a bad weekend you can be down in seventh or eighth place but the Showdown is where it matters and so far so good. We’ve just got three more races to go to keep doing what we’re doing.”

Ends.
