Mixed fortunes for wild card Haslam in World Superbike Championship

JG Speedfit Kawasaki's Leon Haslam grabbed a runner-up finish in Saturday's opening race before crashing out of Sunday's second encounter in round six of the World Superbike Championship at Donington Park, Leics.

“I think, overall, it was well worth being at Donington and having the wild card entry and I have to thank the Puccetti Kawasaki Team and JG Speedfit for making the deal happen," said Haslam.

“The second place on Saturday was a bit more than expected really. I'd had about two hours on the machine befroe racing it so to get on the podium was always going to be a dream more than reality.

“I was happy with the pace and always knew I had something in hand if Melandri in third place began to close the gap to me. I also knew we could improve the machine a lot for Sunday's race.

"Being taken out in the early part of the second race was really disappointing, that last corner hasn't always been kind to me! In all we'll reflect on the weekend and take the positives, in addition to Saturday's result it was also good to be out there and keeping race-fit with the long gap in the BSB calendar before Knockhill in three weeks."

Ends.
